Life Experience of Panda An An
Birth: An An was born in the serene environment of the Wolong Shenshuping Base, a significant site for giant panda conservation in China. His early life has been filled with love and camaraderie, particularly with his twin brother, Wu Lin (武林).
Mascots of Ya’an: In 2019, An An (安安) and another female panda, Ya Ya (雅雅), were chosen as the city mascots of Ya’an (雅安), Sichuan Province. Their connection has been described as a childhood friendship.
Third Birthday Celebration: An An’s third birthday was celebrated on August 3, 2022, during a special event themed “We Are Three!” at the Ya’an base of the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda. This event featured the release of an innovative digital music collection titled “Panda Concert,” which included sounds of An An (安安) and Ya Ya (雅雅), such as their vocalizations and the sounds of them munching on bamboo.
Travel to Hongkong: On September 26, 2024, An An (安安) and the female panda Ke Ke (可可) were gifted to Hong Kong, where they will reside at Ocean Park to bring joy to the local community. The pandas arrived at Hong Kong International Airport around 11 AM, marking the beginning of a new chapter in their lives.
Naming Contest: On October 2, 2024, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region’s Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Yang Runxiong (杨润雄), announced the launch of a naming activity for the third pair of giant pandas gifted to Hong Kong. This event, running until October 27, allows the community to participate in naming the beloved pandas. In the end, they chose the keep An An’s original name, as it coincided with the name of another panda, who traveled to Hongkong in 1999.
Meet the Public: On December 8, 2024, An An and Ke Ke officially met with Hong Kong residents and visitors.
