Intriguing Details of Panda Lao Lao
Appearance: Lao Lao stands at 163 centimeters tall, characterized by his large, round head and wise-looking eyes. His distinctive black-and-white fur and medium build make him irresistibly cute.
The “Meal King”: One of Lao Lao standout traits is his impressive speed when it comes to eating; he became famous online after winning the “Panda Bamboo Peeling Championship” by devouring bamboo at a remarkable pace, often taking three bites per shoot. Sometimes, his eating speed amazes the keepers and even surprises netizens. Lao Lao also has a big appetite – every time he eats, he finishes everything completely, leaving no leftovers behind.
Idol Persona: Lao Lao has a bit of an “idol persona.” When eating indoors, he is very showy, eating rapidly with flair. However, when eating outdoors, he takes a much slower, more leisurely approach, maintaining an air of elegance that suits his refined demeanor.
Playing with the Ball: Under the careful care of his keepers, Lao Lao has learned how to perform a “fancy ball trick.” He first picks up a ball, then lies down, using his feet to hold it up and gently spin it. As the ball spins, food inside the ball falls through a hole and lands on his belly. Lao Lao then uses his paws to grab the food, eating while continuing to spin the ball. The entire process is smooth and fluid, showcasing his playful and skillful nature.
Adoption: In August 2017, the Sichuan Haidilao Catering Co., Ltd. visited the China Giant Panda Protection and Research Center with the intention of adopting pandas. During their visit, they chose to sponsor Lao Lao and his twin sister Hai Hai, born to Lin Bing that same year.
Relocation: On September 27, 2019, Lao Lao embarked on a new adventure, moving to the Yangzhou Zoo (Zhuyuwan Zoo) alongside another panda named Yue Liang (月亮). Now, they still live there happily.
