Life Journey of Panda Xin Bao
Early Life: Xin Bao spent her early years at the Wolong Shenshuping Base. In 2021, Xin Bao was relocated to the Ya’an Bifengxia Base of the China Giant Panda Protection and Research Center.
International Exchange: In 2024, as part of a collaborative international conservation effort between China and the United States, Xin Bao was selected to travel to the San Diego Zoo alongside a male giant panda named Yun Chuan (云川). This initiative was made possible by the signing of a new giant panda international conservation cooperation research agreement, aiming to enhance cooperation and sharing of knowledge between the two countries.
Preparations: To ensure a safe and smooth journey for Xin Bao and Yun Chuan, extensive preparations were made prior to their relocation. The Chinese side conducted thorough health assessments and evaluations for both pandas. Experts were also sent to the San Diego Zoo multiple times to provide technical guidance and conduct inspections to ensure their well-being.
Arrival and Adaptation: On June 27, 2024, Xin Bao and Yun Chuan safely arrived at the San Diego Zoo. After completing a quarantine period, they adapted well to their new environment, gradually engaging in more complex movements and training routines, including side-lying, prone, and standing exercises.
Debut: On August 8, 2024, they made their public debut at “Panda Ridge,” offering visitors an exciting opportunity to meet these incredible animals and learn about ongoing conservation efforts.
