Intriguing Details of Panda Re Gan Mian
Name Origin: The name “Re Gan Mian” translates to “Hot Dry Noodles” and is filled with warmth and commemorative significance. In 2020, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, medical teams from Sichuan were sent to Hubei to support efforts against the virus. To express gratitude for the contributions of the Sichuan medical teams, the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding decided to name the newborn twin pandas after local delicacies. The male cub was named “Re Gan Mian” to symbolize the heroic city of Wuhan and its people, while his twin brother, “Dan Huang Gao,” represents the culinary culture of Chengdu.
Group Life: During childhood, Re Gan Mian lived together with Dan Hong Gao (蛋烘糕), Chun Sheng (春生), and Xiang Guo (香果). These four lively and playful panda cubs were affectionately nicknamed the “Four Kids of the Sun” by netizens due to their energetic antics and frequent wrestling matches (with Chun Sheng usually emerging as the winner). In May 2023, Re Gan Mian and Dan Hong Gao were separated from Chun Sheng and Xiang Guo when they moved to Villa No. 2 in different groups.
Awkward Moment: During a feeding session, a keeper suddenly tossed some bamboo shoots into the enclosure from outside the door. The unexpected noise startled both Re Gan Mian and Dan Hong Gao, causing them to instinctively jump up at the same time. However, they stood up so abruptly that they accidentally bumped their faces together. In an attempt to play it cool, they quickly turned around and sat back-to-back in an awkward silence. This hilarious moment became a classic funny scene in the panda world.
