Intriguing Details of Panda Dan Hong Gao

Birth: At birth, Dan Hong Gao weighed 119.5 grams, making him one of the first pairs of captive-born giant panda twins in the world in 2020.

Name Origin: The name “Dan Hong Gao,” which translates to “Egg Cake,” is filled with warmth and commemorative significance. Like his brother Re Gan Mian (热干面), Dan Hong Gao was named to express gratitude to the medical teams from Sichuan who supported Hubei during the COVID-19 pandemic, representing the culinary heritage of Chengdu.

Prank: When Dan Hong Gao was young, he lived with Re Gan Mian and Chun Sheng (春生). Both Dan Hong Gao and Re Gan Mian couldn’t win against Chun Sheng in their playful fights. One day, Dan Hong Gao suggested teaming up with Re Gan Mian to challenge Chun Sheng. However, when Chun Sheng actually showed up, Dan Hong Gao quietly slipped away, leaving Re Gan Mian alone to face Chun Sheng’s “fury.” After realizing the trick, Chun Sheng angrily chased down Dan Hong Gao and gave him a good “lesson” up in a tree before finally calming down.

Refusing to Get Off Work: Dan Hong Gao is known for his dedication to his “job,” enthusiastically interacting with visitors in the outdoor enclosure. Sometimes, he even refuses to “get off work.” On one occasion, when the zoo was closing, a keeper came to bring him back inside. Instead of cooperating, Dan Hong Gao, sitting in a tree, gave the keeper a playful punch to the face, showing his reluctance to end the day.
