Life Journey of Panda Yun Chuan
Early Life: Yun Chuan’s early years were spent at the Wolong Shenshuping Base, where he was born on July 28, 2019. He is part of a growing panda family, with his siblings Xing An, Tuan Zi, and Chun Qiao.
Exchange Program: Yun Chuan’s story took an exciting turn in February 2024, when he and his panda companion Xin Bao were selected as ambassadors for a panda exchange program under the Sino-American Giant Panda Conservation Cooperation Agreement.
Set Off: On June 26, 2024, Yun Chuan, along with Xin Bao (鑫宝), left the China Conservation and Research Center’s Ya’an Bifengxia Base, embarking on a new chapter of their lives. The pandas traveled by convoy to Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport, where they boarded a chartered flight to the United States. Their journey across continents was completed the following day, June 27, when they safely arrived at the San Diego Zoo in California.
Meet the Public: Following their arrival, Yun Chuan and Xin Bao underwent a month-long quarantine period under the supervision of Chinese experts. With their health in good condition, they were officially introduced to the public at the San Diego Zoo’s “Panda Canyon” on August 8, 2024. The grand opening of the new panda exhibit was attended by the Chinese Ambassador to the United States, Xie Feng, marking a significant moment in panda conservation history.
