Naming Ceremony and Mascot of Ya’an: On October 29, 2019, during the event commemorating the 150th anniversary of the scientific discovery of giant pandas, the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda officially issued Ya Ya’s naming certificate and birth certificate to Ya’an. Ya’an City also announced Ya Ya as the city’s mascot, alongside another giant panda, An An (安安). Together, their names form “Ya’an,” symbolizing the elegance and serenity of the city.

Rose to Fame: Ya Ya has loved climbing trees since she was young. In 2020, a photo of her went viral on the internet. In the photo, Ya Ya is lying at the top of a tree, holding her head up with her right hand, gazing into the distance as if she’s pondering what lies beyond the mountains.

Life Exprience of Panda Ya Ya

Birth: After her birth on August 4, 2019, Ya Ya was nurtured with great care at the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda.

Relocation: In November 2020, Ya Ya moved to the Ya’an Bifengxia Base of the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda, starting a new chapter in her life.

Third Birthday: On August 3, 2022, the Ya’an Base of the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda held a themed event to celebrate the third birthday of Ya Ya and An An.

Fourth Birthday: On August 4, 2023, to celebrate Ya Ya and An An’s fourth birthday, Ya’an Cultural Tourism Group launched an original “Panda Looks at Ya’an 3D Emoji Pack,” featuring Ya Ya and An An as the main characters, vividly showcasing the new eight scenic spots and the new three aspects of Ya’an.
