Life Experience of Panda Yi Yi
Birth and Naming: Yi Yi was born alongside his twin sister, Jiu Jiu, on July 2, 2018, in Ya’an. Yi Yi is Hua Mei’s eleventh cub, and since the number “1” is pronounced yi in Chinese, that’s how he got his name.
Early Life: He later moved to the Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Research Base, where he grew into a healthy and charming young panda. Known for his lively and playful personality, Yi Yi has earned the nickname “Little Prince of the Parallel Bars,” frequently seen walking, playing, and exploring on his climbing frames.
Friendship: Currently residing at the Bifengxia Base, Yi Yi shares his enclosure with his companion Qing Tian (晴天). They were either play-fighting or digging and rolling in the mud, often ending up covered in dirt, earning them the nickname “Brown Bear Duo.” However, in January 2025, Qing Tian moved to the Wolong Shenshuping Panda Base to prepare for breeding, and Yi Yi was also transferred to a non-exhibition area. It’s hard to say if he’ll feel lonely without his buddy.
