Meet Qing Da (庆大), a spirited male giant panda who has captivated hearts around the world. Born on September 16, 2015, at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, Qing Da, with lineage number 985, has grown into a beloved figure in the panda community. He now resides at the Beijing Zoo, where his playful nature and charming antics continue to endear him to visitors. Along with his twin brother, Qing Xiao, Qing Da has experienced a remarkable journey filled with challenges and accomplishments, making him a unique ambassador for his species.

Life Experience of Panda Qing Da

Birth: Qing Da and his twin brother, Qing Xiao, were born together, becoming the youngest panda twins at the Chengdu breeding center in 2015.

Animal Ambassadors: In October 2015, both Qing Da and Qing Xiao were appointed as animal ambassadors for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), marking a significant milestone as the first animal ambassadors in UNDP history.

Obscene Qing: On May 15, 2016, Qing Da and his brother met with Zhou Xun, the UNDP China Goodwill Ambassador, participating in various promotional activities. During the event, he comically reached for a sensitive area, earning him the nickname “Obscene Qing.”

Friendship with Meng Lan: Around 2017, Qing Da, Qing Xiao, and Meng Lan (萌兰) lived together. Once, Qing Da got his head stuck in a fence gate, and Meng Lan came to the rescue. Using his cleverness, Meng Lan successfully freed Qing Da. When Meng Lan was young, he suffered from chronic osteomyelitis and couldn’t eat because of a swollen jaw. Qing Da comforted Meng Lan by hugging him, while Qing Xiao helped by licking Meng Lan’s jaw.
