Chong Yang (重阳), affectionately known as Qiang Qiang, is a male giant panda born on October 25, 2020, at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. He has captured the hearts of many with his charming personality and playful antics. As the twin brother of Zhu Yu (also known as Guo Guo), Chong Yang shares a special bond with his sister. Together, they have become symbols of hope and cultural exchange, representing China’s dedication to giant panda conservation and the promotion of traditional Chinese culture.

Intriguing Details of Panda Chong Yang

Appearance: Chong Yang and his sister Zhu Yu are the most look-alike pair of twins, both having a relatively pointed face and a long nasal bridge. However, Chong Yang’s ears are quite distinctiv – —one always stands upright while the other droops lazily.

Foodie Nature: Chong Yang absolutely loves eating bamboo and is always delighted during mealtime, often making soft humming sounds, which earned him the nickname “Whining Expert.” He also has a special fondness for steamed cornbread with honey, savoring every bite with great enjoyment.

Name Origin: Chong Yang and his sister Zhu Yu were born during the Double Ninth Festival, which inspired their names. Chong Yang was given the name “Qing Chongyang,” while Zhu Yu was initially named “Qing Zhuyu.”

Adoption: On February 4, 2021, Chong Yang and Zhu Yu officially debuted at the Chengdu Research Base, where they were adopted by the popular Chinese learning platform “Xuexi Qiangguo” (Study Strengthens the Nation). They were appointed as ambassadors for the platform, tasked with promoting ecological diversity and traditional Chinese culture.

Twin Sister: Although Chong Yang has not participated directly in international collaboration projects, his sister Zhu Yu is set to embark on an exciting journey. She will travel to Spain with another panda named Jin Xi (金喜) as part of a cultural exchange initiative.
