Name Origin: Xi Xi’s name is derived from the traditional Chinese holiday Qixi, often celebrated as the “Double Seventh Festival” or “Chinese Valentine’s Day.” Her birth occurred just a day before this special festival, prompting her caregivers to name her “Xi Xi.” Affectionately, her caretakers and fans often refer to her as “Princess Xi Xi.”

Personalities: Among her three companions, Xi Xi is the largest in size but tends to be more timid. As the second eldest, she often engages with her mischievous younger sister, San Er (仨儿), who loves to climb high in the trees and playfully steals Xi Xi’s bamboo. Remarkably, Xi Xi never seems to mind these antics, demonstrating her calm temperament.

Life Experience of Panda Xi Xi

Birthplace: Xi Xi was born at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, a key site for panda conservation and breeding efforts.

Work Experiences: On February 2, 2016, Xi Xi had her first work assignment at the Shanghai Wild Animal Park. She returned to the Chengdu base on January 4, 2017, after her assignment. Later, on April 19, 2018, she traveled with San Er to the Hohhot Daqingshan Wild Animal Park.

Birthday Celebrations: Xi Xi’s birthdays are celebrated with enthusiasm at the Hohhot Daqingshan Wild Animal Park. For her 11th birthday on August 14, 2024, the zoo planned a special celebration featuring a watermelon cake, a large vase made of durian, dragon fruit, and bamboo, as well as delicious fruit and vegetable skewers.
