Intriguing Details of Panda Sa Er
Name Origin: Sa Er’s name carries a poignant meaning. Her mother, Jiao Zi, experienced 21 days of reduced food intake before giving birth and went through over 50 hours of labor to deliver triplets on August 19, 2013. Unfortunately, only Sa Er survived the challenging birth. To honor this difficult experience and the memory of her lost siblings, she was named “Sa Er,” symbolizing her status as the sole survivor of the triplets.
Appearance: Sa Er has a unique dental structure, often described as “Heaven covering Earth,” and a cute “panda chin” that gives her a distinctive appearance. When viewed from the side, her features resemble those of an adorable little fox, leading many to affectionately call her “Little Fox Sa Er.”
Gate Guardian: When Sa’er was little, she had a special habit of resting and playing right next to the iron gate where the keepers fed the pandas, eagerly waiting for the keepers to appear – just like a little “gate guardian.” At the Shanghai Wild Animal Park, she enjoyed staying high up in the trees, observing her surroundings. She would often mischievously steal Qian Qian’s bamboo, but Qian Qian never got upset about it.
