Name Origin: On June 10, 2021, giant panda Mang Zai gave birth to a pair of twins at Chongqing Zoo. To give the twins meaningful names, the zoo initiated a naming campaign on September 17 of the same year. The zoo received over a thousand suggestions through various channels, including WeChat, email, and on-site submissions. After several rounds of selection, online voting, and discussions, the names “Xing Xing” (Star) and “Chen Chen” (Morning Star) were chosen. The inspiration for these names comes from the phrase “Our journey is to the stars and the sea,” symbolizing the zoo’s best wishes for the twin pandas while also paying tribute to all space workers.
Bathing Enthusiast: Mang Chen Chen loves cleanliness and enjoys taking baths. He even stands up to bathe. He often stands by the water basin, using his front paws to scoop up water to wash his face or body, and sometimes uses his mouth to help with the cleaning. When bath time comes, Mang Chen Chen’s mouth curls up in delight, and sometimes he even grabs the hose to bathe himself.
Clingy Nature: Mang Chen Chen has a clingy personality and often approaches his caretakers seeking affection and interaction. He loves hugging his caretakers’ legs and runs after them, along with his brother Mang Xing Xing, in a very adorable manner.
