Basic Information

Intriguing Details of Panda Qing Qing

Name Origin: Qing Qing was born alongside her twin sister Xi Xi at Chongqing Zoo on June 23, 2019. On the same day, another pair of giant panda twins was born, making it a unique event in the zoo’s history. To celebrate the occasion, the zoo launched a global naming campaign when the twins reached one month old. After a process of online voting, expert opinions, and consideration of the names’ meanings, Qing Qing (Grand Celebration) was chosen as the name for the younger twin.

Meet the Public: On September 30, 2019, Qing Qing and Xi Xi made their public debut during a naming ceremony, marking their 100th day of life.

Appearance: Qing Qing is the smallest of the four pandas born at the same time. She has the roundest big face and a pair of large, Mickey-like ears. Her eyes are round and bright, and she closely resembles her mother, Mang Zai.

Eating Around the Table: Qing Qing and her siblings have a unique dining habit. At Chongqing Zoo, the keepers have specially designed a large table for them. Every feeding time is like a small feast. The keepers place bamboo, apples, and panda cakes on the table, and the four little pandas (Shuang Shuang, Chong Chong, Xi Xi, and Qing Qing) sit around the table in an orderly manner, taking turns to enjoy the food.

Joyful Daily Life: While Shuang Shuang is busy “teaching” Chong Chong, Qing Qing and her sister Xi Xi take the opportunity to feast. They sometimes even hide some food for snack. When Shuang Shuang is sent to the “small black room” for fighting, Qing Qing and the other siblings seize the chance to visit him, sometimes even bringing him some bamboo shoots.
