Basic Information

Life Experience of Panda Da Ni

Early Life: During her early years, Da Ni was exceptionally lively, enjoying her time exploring the enclosure. Climbing trees and navigating climbing frames were her specialties. Even at three months old, although she couldn’t walk yet, her alert expressions and lively gaze showed a natural charm that hinted at her future stardom.

Name Origin: Her name, officially given on February 6, 2016, came from a global naming contest. The playful nickname “Da Ni” emerged online because of her crawling style, which is homophonic “大鲵” (Giant Salamander).

Wildness Training: On March 26, 2016, Da Ni, who was just over one year old, along with Xiao Chuan (小川), moved to Dujiangyan Panda Valley to participate in wildness training. However, they were later returned from the program. The specific reasons for their return were not disclosed.

Breeding: In 2021, Da Ni returned to the Chengdu Panda Base for arranged mating but was unsuccessful, possibly because she wasn’t interested in the mates selected for her. This situation finally changed in 2024 when Da Ni successfully became pregnant and gave birth to a cub.
