Basic Information

Intriguing Details of Panda Si Yi

During his early years, Si Yi lived in the Moonlight Delivery Room alongside his peers, including Xiao Qiao (小乔) and Yuan Run (园润). Because Yuan Run was physically weaker and required special care, Si Yi was raised by Xiao Qiao’s mother, Xiao Ya Tou (小丫头), who showered him with maternal love. This nurturing environment allowed Si Yi to enjoy a happy childhood filled with affection.

Big Fat King: In June 2014, Si Yi and Xiao Qiao moved to the Panda Base’s juvenile garden, where they began living with other young pandas born the same year. Due to his larger size, he and Xiao Qiao earned the playful nicknames “Big Fat King” and “Big Fat Queen.”

Bear Hug Maniac: Si Yi has a gentle and composed personality. He is not shy and often greets his friends enthusiastically. Known as the “Bear Hug Maniac,” he enjoys embracing his companions and is especially close to his childhood friend, Xiao Qiao. Because Si Yi had been larger in size since a young age, all the other cubs were unable to escape from him, even if they were not very willing to hug.

Sensitive Boy: Si Yi is particularly sensitive to the calls of his caretakers and shows playful affection when he doesn’t receive apples, often charmingly pouting or even snatching food directly from the caregivers. His love for snacks is evident, as he frequently licks his paws in delight after meals.

Media Attntion and Celebrity Encounters: Si Yi has also made appearances that captured media attention. In 2013, he was featured twice on CCTV news, allowing audiences to learn about his life with Xiao Ya Tou and Xiao Qiao. Notably, on May 31, 2013, he took a photo with members of the Backstreet Boys during a visit to the base, with Si Yi positioned in the center. Later, on August 29, 2013, he was photographed with basketball star Jeremy Lin, who visited the base while Si Yi enjoyed licking his paw contentedly.

Relocations: On November 5, 2015, Si Yi graduated from the juvenile garden and moved to Villa No. 2 at the Chengdu Base. By March 18, 2016, he relocated with Xiao Qiao to the Longtan Grand Canyon Panda House in Luoyang, Henan, where they officially met the public on March 25, 2016. After over 3 years in Luoyang, Si Yi moved again to Oulebao Animal Kindom in Shandong Province on September 12, 2020 and has been there until now.
