Birth and Naming

Yuan Meng was born on August 4, 2017, becoming the first giant panda born in France.

On December 4, 2017, French First Lady Brigitte Macron, along with Zhang Yesui, the Chinese Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, participated in a ceremony to name him. The name “Yuan Meng” symbolizes the realization of dreams and expresses the hope for enduring friendship between China and France. Brigitte Macron has since taken on the role of his godmother.

Growing Up and Interacting

From a young age, Yuan Meng displayed a lively and curious nature, often engaging in playful interactions with his mother, Huan Huan, as he explored his surroundings.

He garnered widespread attention and affection from the French public during his time at Beauval Zoo, participating in numerous public events and celebrations that highlighted his endearing personality.

Return to China

On May 4, 2023, Beauval Zoo announced that Yuan Meng would return to China on July 4 of that year. However, due to administrative reasons, his return was postponed to July 25.

On July 26, 2023, Yuan Meng arrived in China aboard a special flight and landed at the Chengdu Panda Breeding Research Base, marking the beginning of a new chapter in his life.
