Energetic and Lively: Xing Bao is always full of enthusiasm. He interacts playfully with visitors, often blowing kisses, performing playful gestures, and even opening doors to greet them, showcasing his friendly demeanor. His daily life is filled with a variety of entertaining activities, such as rolling around with large bamboo poles, performing “ballet” jumps in the air, shaking trees, and enjoying the snow.

Heavyweight Contender: During his journey back to China, Xing Bao demonstrated his “heavyweight” strength. It’s said that when he was transported by forklift to a special vehicle at the airport, the forklift was damaged by his weight, and a new vehicle had to be brought in to continue the journey.

Picky Eater: When Xing Bao first returned to China, his pickiness with food was astonishing. He refused to drink water or eat apples unless they were mixed with honey. The keepers had to prepare sweetened honey water for him, which he finally accepted and drank.

Life Experience of Panda Xing Bao

Birth: On August 30, 2013, Xing Bao was born at the Madrid Zoo, becoming the zoo’s fourth giant panda. His name, chosen through an online poll, translates to “star treasure,” reflecting his significance to the Spanish people.

Life in Spain: During his over four years in Spain, Xing Bao enjoyed a happy childhood, attracting the affection and attention of the Spanish public. His charm even caught the eye of the Spanish Queen, who made a special visit to meet him.

Back to China: According to international panda conservation agreements, giant pandas born overseas must return to China before reaching sexual maturity. On September 26, 2017, Xing Bao officially began his journey back to his homeland, landing at Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport on September 28. He was subsequently taken to the Chengdu Panda Breeding Research Base for a month-long period of strict quarantine and health checks.

Settle in Guiyang: On April 13, 2018, Xing Bao moved to Guiyang Qianling Mountain Zoo, where he has lived ever since.
