Meet Ya Lao Da (娅老大), a remarkable female giant panda whose life story reflects resilience, care, and the warmth of family. Born on September 9, 1999, at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, Ya Lao Da has experienced a life filled with love, challenges, and a few adventures. As a twin and the firstborn of her mother, Ya Ya, she has captured the hearts of many through her journey, showcasing both her strength and charm.

Life Experience of Panda Ya Lao Da

Childhood: Ya Lao Da is the firstborn of a pair of twin sisters, born when her mother, Ya Ya, was just nine years old. Although her name sounds powerful, she faced a health challenge early in life, battling viral myocarditis. Fortunately, she made a full recovery and has since thrived.

Relocations: Throughout her life, Ya Lao Da has experienced several relocations.

  • On June 12, 2008, she moved to the Shaanxi Rare Wildlife Rescue Breeding Research Center.
  • Just under a year later, on March 11, 2009, she returned to the Chengdu Research Base.
  • This cycle of relocation continued when, on April 24, 2014, she returned to the Shaanxi center again.
  • By the end of 2020, she had finally settled down in the Dujiangyan Panda Valley, where she enjoys her retirement years.

Breeding Achievements of Panda Ya Lao Da

  • Le Le (乐乐): A male panda born on July 29, 2008, at the Shaanxi Rare Wildlife Rescue Breeding Research Center, with lineage number 715. Le Le moved to the Qinling Panda Foping Rescue Breeding Research Base on August 25, 2022.
  • Zhi Zhi (芝芝): A female panda born on August 23, 2009, at the Chengdu Research Base, with lineage number 763.
  • Xiao Ya (小丫): A female panda born on September 15, 2014, at the Shaanxi Rare Wildlife Rescue Breeding Research Center, with lineage number 940. Unfortunately, Xiao Ya passed away on June 12, 2022, due to uremia.
