Narcissistic Tendencies: Mei Xin is characterized by her slightly brownish fur, round face, and large, expressive eyes, embodying the classic beauty of giant pandas. She enjoys showcasing her graceful figure in various poses, even while eating or stretching, earning her the nickname “the narcissistic fashion beauty.”
“Lost on the Way Home”: In November 2024, Mei Xin got lost on her way back home after “work.” However, she unexpectedly demonstrated her incredible “reverse parking” skill, slowly backing up with her backside towards her den, impressing the keepers.
Greedy Eater: Mei Xin is quite the little food princess, always indulging in her favorite treats and receiving plenty of attention from her keepers. She spends her day constantly eating, and after finishing her bamboo shoots, she calls out and flirts with the nannies to get snacks. Sometimes, she even climbs the walls or chews on grass to appear pitiful and get more food.
Varied Diet: In addition to the typical foods eaten by giant pandas, Mei Xin has a special love for cooked corn and bananas. Under the guidance of her keepers, she even learned how to peel a banana by herself.
Life Experience of Panda Mei Xin
Birth and Early Years: Mei Xin was born at the Wolong Walnut Grove Wild Training Base and spent her early years there.
Relocations: Throughout her life, Mei Xin has experienced multiple relocations. In 2008, she was temporarily moved to the Beijing Zoo. Later, she was transferred to the Ya’an Bifengxia Base of the China Giant Panda Protection and Research Center and also exhibited at the Guilin Zoo. For health reasons, she spent some time at the Dujiangyan Base. Ultimately, on September 29, 2019, Mei Xin moved to the Linhu Guse Panda Museum in Ulaanqab City, where she continues to reside.
Birthday Celebration: On August 10 and 12, 2023, Mei Xin celebrated her 17th birthday at the Linhu Guse Panda Museum in Ulaanqab City. The event was marked by a warm and lively celebration attended by her caretakers and fans from across the country.
