Fu Long (福龙/Fulong)’s journey is nothing short of extraordinary. Born on August 23, 2007, at Schönbrunn Zoo in Vienna, he made history as the first giant panda in 25 years to be naturally born in Europe under human care. With his signature “white socks” and an early start as a media sensation, Fu Long captured hearts worldwide. This little panda’s adventure has only grown more exciting as he travels from Austria to China, continuing to inspire panda lovers everywhere.

Life Experience of Panda Fu Long

Birth and Naming: Fu Long made history as the first giant panda in 25 years to be naturally born in Europe under human care, generating widespread excitement. Two months after his birth, on November 1, 2007, he was officially named “Fu Long,” symbolizing blessings and good luck.

Childhood: Fu Long spent his early years at Schönbrunn Zoo, receiving excellent care from zookeepers. At two months old, Fu Long underwent his first medical examination, weighing 3.9 kg. He has a tuft of white fur on the front of his right hind foot, which became his signature feature, earning him the nickname “White Socks.”

First Public Appearance During Fu Long’s first press conference, over 800 media outlets gathered in the small animal enclosure. As he took his tiny steps into the larger habitat, camera shutters clicked nonstop – he instantly became the brightest star of Vienna Zoo.

Return to China: In November 2009, Fu Long returned to China after spending his childhood in Austria. He was sent to the Bifengxia Panda Base of the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda for further care and protection.

Relocation and Travel: In 2013, Fu Long temporarily relocated to Langzhong Panda Paradise. Later, in 2021, he moved to the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, where he currently resides.
