Zheng Zheng (正正), also affectionately known as “Steamed Bun ((蒸包)” and “Xi Da Mei (喜大妹),” is a female giant panda born on July 11, 2012, at the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda, Bifengxia Base. As one of the first twin panda cubs born globally in 2012, Zheng Zheng’s life has been filled with remarkable experiences and adventures, making her a cherished member of the panda community.

Intriguing Details of Panda Zheng Zheng

Great Tree Climber: Zheng Zheng has demonstrated exceptional tree-climbing skills from a young age. It’s common to see her skillfully climbing to the treetops, enjoying the view from above. However, sometimes she slips during her climb and ends up on her back, with her paws in the air, completing her challenge in an amusing way.

Strong Curiosity: Zheng Zheng’s curiosity is strong. While searching for food, she accidentally wandered into the staff’s dining area and became intrigued by human food. She cautiously sampled the human bread, her expression shifting from confusion to satisfaction as she enjoyed the treat.

Life Experience of Panda Zheng Zheng

Birth: Zheng Zheng, along with her twin sister Hui Hui, made history as the world’s first panda twins born in 2012. Due to her particularly fluffy facial fur, Zheng Zheng was affectionately nicknamed “Zheng Bao (Steamed Bun)” by her online fans.

Adoption: On February 1, 2013, Zhejiang Zhenghui Lighting Engineering Co., Ltd. adopted the twin panda cubs born in 2012 at the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda, naming them “Zheng Zheng” and “Hui Hui.”

Relocations: Throughout her life, Zheng Zheng has experienced several relocations and changes in her living environment. In 2014, She moved to the Shenshuping Base of the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda in Wolong and, in 2015, was sent to the Ningbo Youngor Zoo in Zhejiang Province, along with the panda “Jia Jia (嘉嘉),” for public display.

Breeding Effort: In 2018, Zheng Zheng returned to Chengdu, Sichuan, to participate in a breeding program. In 2020, she was sent to the Shaanxi Rare Wildlife Rescue and Breeding Research Center for genetic exchange.

Offspring: On 6th July, 2021, Zheng Zheng welcomed her first cub, which was later named “Ba Zai (八仔)” On August 9, 2023, Zheng Zheng gave birth to male twin cubs, marking another significant milestone in her life.
