Intriguing Details of Panda Mai Mai

Appearance: The first impression of Mai Mai is that he is very white. As a cub, he was so white he seemed to glow, and as he grew up, he remained clean and bright. His eyes have a slightly upward tilt, and he has a little hole in his vest area. When he was young, Mai Mai was larger than other cubs and loved to strike poses alone, often looking quite aloof. This led people to affectionately call him “Cool Boy Mai.”

Joyful Childhood: As a cub, Mai Mai was nicknamed “Foot-Chewing Maniac” because of his size advantage. He loved to grab the feet of other pandas and chew on them. During his kindergarten years, he liked to stir up trouble, but he couldn’t handle the other pandas and often ended up being knocked to the ground.

Friendship with Ling Yan: Mai Mai and Ling Yan (灵岩) are good friends. They often interact with each other through the glass, playing together and enjoying each other’s company. Ling Yan loves to take baths and sing in the middle of the night, which often disturbed Mai Mai for a while. He would frequently fall asleep while eating bamboo, and people jokingly say that while other pandas may have fake dark circles, Mai Mai’s are the real result of sleepless nights.

Understanding Sichuan Dialect: When Mai Mai was at the Luanchuan Bamboo Sea Wildlife Park, the keepers would call his name in Sichuan dialect, and he would immediately look over, showing his affection for his hometown language. However, this response didn’t happen when they used Henan dialect.

Daily Hobbies: Mai Mai enjoys feeding his little magpie family with his “nest balls.” He has an incredibly accurate biological clock—when it’s time to clock off, he’s the first to run off. He’s also the “Ballet Prince” on the swing.
