Birth: Bao Mei was born on July 6, 2019, at the Chengdu Research Base, weighing 209 grams at birth. Alongside her twin brother Bao Ge, they became the heaviest artificially bred panda twins in the world, marking a significant achievement for the breeding program.
Kindergarten Life: Bao Mei and Bao Ge enjoyed a joyful and playful time in the “kindergarten” at the panda base, where they were raised together. They formed a trio with another panda named Jin Bao (金宝), collectively known as the “Three Treasures.” This trio spent countless happy moments together in the Adventure Valley Autumn Moon Pavilion, where they engaged in playful antics and explored their surroundings.
Adapting to New Environments: On December 30, 2023, Bao Mei transitioned to a new kindergarten environment, where she became neighbors with fellow pandas Hua Hua (花花) and He Ye (和叶). Although she had graduated from kindergarten years ago, her return sparked amusement among netizens, who jokingly referred to her as coming back to pursue a “doctorate.” The new caretaker for Bao Mei is Grandpa Tan, who looks after her and two other “doctorate” pandas, ensuring they receive the best care and attention.
Current Life: Currently, Bao Mei resides in the Giant Panda Villa No. 6, situated just a wall away from her neighbors, HUa Hua and He Ye. Interestingly, she is also their cousin, which adds a familial element to her new living arrangements.
