Name Origin: In October 2019, Pairi Daiza Zoo launched a naming campaign on social media, inviting fans to help name the panda twins. The response was overwhelming, with over 73,000 fans voting. In the end, the names “Bao Di” and “Bao Mei” were chosen, with Bao Di meaning “Precious Brother.” The names honored their elder sibling Tian Bao, the first panda born in Belgium, and represent the family ties shared by the pandas born in Belgium. The twins were officially named on November 14, 2019, with a special naming ceremony held to celebrate the occasion.
Life Experience of Panda Bao Di
Early Life: During his early years at Pairi Daiza Zoo, Bao Di grew up alongside his twin sister Bao Mei. Under the care of the zoo’s dedicated staff, the panda twins thrived and became star attractions, delighting visitors with their playful antics and charismatic personalities.
Brithday Celebration: As Bao Di approached his third birthday, the Chinese Embassy in Belgium joined Pairi Daiza Zoo in hosting a special birthday celebration on August 6, 2022, for both Bao Di and Bao Mei. Return to China: In early 2024, Pairi Daiza Zoo announced that Bao Di, along with his sister Bao Mei and older sibling Tian Bao, would be returning to China in the fall.
