Life Experience of Panda Bing Dian
Birth: Bing Dian was the second-generation panda born from artificial breeding at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. Weighing only 58 grams at birth, he was the lightest panda cub in the world at the time. But still, he grew up healthily.
Distinct Features: As a cub, Bing Dian was known for his playful nature and his tendency to drool. He often had a ring of foam around his mouth, earning him the nickname “Floral Mouth.”
Adoption: On June 25, 2001, in the final stretch of Beijing’s bid to host the 2008 Olympic Games, Guangdong Sibao Stainless Steel Products Co. Ltd. adopted the nine-month-old panda. In support of Beijing’s Olympic aspirations and the “green Olympics” concept, they named him “Pan’ao,” symbolizing “Longing for the Olympics.”
Relocations: On September 11, 2008, Bing Dian was transferred to Luoyang Zoo. He did not return to the Chengdu Research Base until March 20, 2012. On April 28, 2016, he moved again to Chengdu Zoo, where he continued to be adored by visitors.
Ritirement: As of 2024, Bing Dian is 24 years old, an advanced age for a giant panda. He has not been publicly displayed since returning to the Chengdu Research Base, and information about his current health and living conditions remains private.
