Life Experience of Panda Wu Wen
Early Life: Wu Wen spent her early years at the Ya’an Bifengxia Base. She loved rolling around and showing off her playful nature. She has a well-balanced physique, with her distinctive oval black eye rings and round, expressive ears. She also has a few black markings on her nose bridge.
Move to the Netherlands: On April 11, 2017, Wu Wen embarked on a new chapter in her life, traveling with another panda named Xing Ya (星雅) to the Ouwehands Zoo in the Netherlands as part of an international panda exchange program. During her time there, Wu Wen quickly became one of the zoo’s most popular animals, capturing the hearts of the Dutch public.
First Cub: On January 18, 2020, with the joint efforts of the center and experts from Ouwehands Zoo, Wu Wen and Xing Ya successfully mated twice naturally. Around 1:30 a.m. on May 1, Wu Wen gave birth to a daughter named Fan Xing (梵星). This was the first panda cub born abroad in 2020 from the center and the first giant panda ever born in the Netherlands.
Second Cub: In February 2024, Wu Wen and Xing Ya mated naturally again. At 4:30 a.m. on July 13, 2024, Wu Wen gave birth to another daughter named Lang Yue (朗月), followed by a smaller cub who sadly passed away shortly after birth due to congenital developmental issues. The name “Lang” is derived from the Chinese pronunciation of the Dutch painter Rembrandt, symbolizing hope, brightness, and wisdom. “Yue” means “moon,” expressing both the beauty of the moon and a longing for family.
Public Debut: In December 2024, Ouwehands Zoo conducted a DNA test on Lang Yue, confirming she is female. On January 14, 2025, Lang Yue made her first public appearance.
