Significant Experiences

Growth and Gift to Hong Kong

Le Le was born and raised at the Wolong Walnut Flat Wild Training Base. On April 27, 2007, he became one of the two giant pandas gifted by the State Forestry Administration to Hong Kong, alongside a female panda named Ying Ying (盈盈). This gesture was to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Hong Kong’s return to China. The name “Le” means “joy” in Chinese and was chosen through a naming contest involving the people of Hong Kong. On April 26, 2007, Le Le and Ying Ying arrived in Hong Kong and were housed at Ocean Park, making their official public debut on July 1 of the same year.

Breeding and Offspring

In March 2024, Le Le successfully mated with Ying Ying at Ocean Park. Following a gestation period of nearly five months, Ying Ying gave birth to a pair of twins, a boy and a girl, on August 15 at 2:05 a.m. and 3:27 a.m., marking a joyous occasion for both the pandas and the park.
