After nearly five years, Wenzhou Zoo is once again welcoming the return of China’s “national treasures” — giant pandas!
At 6:46 p.m. on June 7, twin pandas named “Baodi” and “Baomei,” from the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda, safely arrived in Wenzhou. The two pandas were smoothly escorted to Wenzhou Zoo by the official panda reception team and are currently in good health.
Recently, with the approval of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda and Wenzhou Zoo have launched a five-year cooperation project focused on panda-related science education and public outreach.
To help the pandas adapt to their new environment, one experienced keeper from the research center has accompanied them to Wenzhou and will stay long-term to provide guidance. Prior to the pandas’ arrival, Wenzhou Zoo had already sent its own keepers and veterinarians to the panda research center for training.
According to regulations, the two pandas will undergo at least seven days of quarantine and observation. Once they pass health inspections, they will officially meet the public. The opening date will be announced in advance.
This collaboration marks an important step in sharing the achievements of giant panda conservation and promoting nature education. Wenzhou Zoo will regularly update panda fans and visitors with news about the pandas’ daily life in the zoo.
“Baodi” and “Baomei” will be meeting the citizens of Wenzhou very soon — stay tuned!
