Intriguing Details of Panda Yu Bao
Meaning of the Name: On March 18, 2017, the Chongqing Zoo held a naming ceremony for three giant panda cubs. Through an online submission and voting process, the public participated in naming the twin pandas “Yu Bao” and “Yu Bei,” while another cub was named “Liang Yue (良月).” According to Ms. Luo Xueling, the namer, “Yu” is an abbreviation for Chongqing, and the names Yu Bao and Yu Bei symbolize the preciousness of these pandas to the city. Both names convey the idea of cherishing them as treasures, with hopes that they will grow strong and one day become mascots and stars of Chongqing.
Appearance: Since her birth, Yu Bei has received meticulous care and attention at the Chongqing Zoo. She and her brother, Yu Bao, look remarkably similar, but keepers can distinguish them by subtle differences such as fur patterns, ear shapes, and mouth sizes.
Relationship with Liang Yue: Yu Bei has a great relationship with her little aunt, Liang Yue. They live together and share a harmonious bond. Yu Bei is usually calm and relaxed, often sharing bamboo with her aunt, eating side by side. However, when new toys are introduced, Yu Bei and Liang Yue have been known to have playful “battles” over them.
