Growth Journey

You You and his twin brother were named during a special ceremony on December 17, 2021, which marked 100 days since their birth. The names were selected through a public vote by the Spanish community, symbolizing the friendship between China and Spain.

On March 21, 2022, just six months after their birth, You You and Jiu Jiu made their much-anticipated public debut during the Madrid Zoo’s 50th anniversary celebration. The twins quickly captured the hearts of countless visitors with their playful antics and endearing personalities.

During their early growth stages, You You and Jiu Jiu received excellent care from the dedicated zoo staff. They thrived and grew healthy, with their weight increasing from approximately 150 grams at birth to around 70 kilograms by their second birthday. Their development has been closely monitored, and each milestone has brought joy to the staff and visitors alike.

On February 29, 2024, You You, along with his family, which includes his 22-year-old father Bing Xing and 19-year-old mother Hua Zui Ba, began their journey back to China. This family reunion not only marks a significant moment in their lives but also reinforces the strong ties between the two countries that have nurtured them.

On March 1, 2024, at 1:49 PM, You You and his family safely arrived in Chengdu, Sichuan, under the joint efforts of both Chinese and Spanish authorities. This marked the beginning of a new chapter for the family, as they return to their homeland, where they will continue to thrive in an environment that supports their natural behaviors and provides opportunities for future generations of giant pandas.
