Yong Yong spent her childhood and adolescence at the Qinling Giant Panda Research Center, where she quickly became one of the star pandas. On June 25, 2019, she celebrated her 5th birthday, which is roughly equivalent to 18 years old in human terms, marking her as a sub-adult panda. The center celebrated her birthday with a special fruit cake and a chorus of the birthday song.
Breeding Achievements
First Offspring: On August 17, 2020, at the age of 6, Yong Yong successfully gave birth to her first cub, a female named Qin Yun (秦韵), weighing 152 grams. This event made Yong Yong the youngest mother at the Qinling Giant Panda Research Center and marked the arrival of the “third generation” in the artificially bred Qinling panda population, achieving the rare phenomenon of “four generations under one roof.”
Second Offspring: On August 11, 2022, Yong Yong gave birth to a pair of male twins. The first was born at 10:35, weighing 150.4 grams, and the second at 11:13, weighing 134.5 grams. Both cubs were healthy and started nursing soon after birth, marking Yong Yong’s second successful experience in motherhood.
Personality and Behavior
As a female giant panda, Yong Yong has displayed strong maternal instincts. While she initially appeared inexperienced when caring for her first cub, she quickly learned essential behaviors such as holding, licking, and nursing her cubs, becoming increasingly coordinated and confident in her role as a mother.
