Basic Information

Intriguing Details of Panda Ying Bang

Naming Origin: According to the zoo, “Ying Bang” signifies that, like the cherry blossoms representing Japan, giant pandas bring warmth, love, and happiness to everyone who sees them. The name also reflects the hope for her to grow up to be generous and healthy.

Playing on the Slide: During her time in Japan, Ying Bang loved playing on the slide. Once, she promised her nanny that she would go eat after one more slide. However, just as the nanny turned around to collect her, Ying Bang turned back and went straight to the play area again.

Loves Sleeping: Ying Bang is particularly fond of sleeping, possibly because she eats so much at night. During the day, she focuses on catching up on sleep. She often gets drowsy while eating, and despite feeling sleepy, she forces herself to stay awake for the food. After zoning out for a bit, she resumes eating, with her mouth and brain in a fierce struggle.

Rebellious: Near the end of the day, the more her nannies called for her to return home, the more reluctant Ying Bang became. Ironically, when they didn’t call for her, she would just return on her own.

Personality: Ying Bang shares her mother’s shy and introverted nature, and she is a panda who occasionally experiences “eating freezes.” According to the keepers, when she suddenly stops eating, it might be because she is trying to assess if the surrounding sounds are affecting her. She excels in managing her expressions and rarely has unflattering photos taken of her, always exuding an air of celebrity charm. When she was younger, she even took the initiative to find a photo frame to pose with when visitors wanted pictures.

Debut: On May 21, 2015, Ying Bang and Tao Bang, along with their mother Liang Bang, made their debut in the zoo’s outdoor enclosure. This was their first appearance before visitors.
