Health Status of Panda Fu Wan

At birth, Fu Wan was diagnosed with a congenital spinal issue, which has resulted in weakness in her hind legs. This condition prevents her from walking normally like other pandas, making climbing trees and wooden structures challenging. Despite these difficulties, Fu Wan has shown remarkable growth and adaptability thanks to the dedicated care she receives at the breeding base. She has undergone regular health check-ups and rehabilitation training to help her make the best use of her front paws for movement and play.

Although Fu Wan cannot run and play freely like other giant pandas, it has never given up on trying. It started attempting to climb small trees. Despite failing at first, Fu Wan didn’t give up and kept trying again and again.

After a long period of practice and effort, Fu Wan was finally able to climb the small trees steadily. Sitting on the branches, it enjoyed the sunshine and gentle breeze, with a satisfied and proud smile on its face.

Social Incident about Panda Fu Wan

On March 4, 2023, an unfortunate incident occurred at the Chengdu Research Base. While Fu Wan was playing, three female visitors intentionally threw cold water at her. This frightened Wan, causing her to emit a distressing cry similar to a dog’s and seek refuge in a corner. The perpetrators laughed, but other visitors condemned their behavior. The keepers were deeply concerned and immediately comforted Fu Wan by holding her close and spending extra time playing with her by the wooden structures. The base’s staff later confirmed that Fu Wan was safe and in stable condition. They emphasized that Fu Wan received immediate care and reassurance after the incident.
