Basic Information

Life Experience of Panda Bei Bei

Name Origin: Bei Bei was born on August 10, 2008, during the Beijing Olympics, which inspired her name based on the Olympic mascot, representing auspiciousness, happiness, and good luck. Her life has been a series of remarkable events since her early days.

Relocations: In September 2010, she traveled to Changsha Ecological Park for a brief visit. After that, she returned to the Chengdu base on November 8, 2012. Bei Bei’s charm was further showcased in July 2014 when she, along with another panda named Shu Yun (蜀云), made her debut at Qingdao Zoo. Both pandas, born in 2008 had acclimatized to their new environment for over two months before meeting the public.

Introverted Personality: Bei Bei is somewhat socially anxious and tends to stay inside when there are too many people around. Even when there are fewer visitors, she often sits with his back to them, quietly eating bamboo. However, this personality trait may have had an unexpected effect on her appearance – compared to other pandas of the same age, Bei Bei looks noticeably younger.
