The two giant pandas, “Xing Qiu” and “Yi Lan,” from China will make their public debut at the Adelaide Zoo in Australia on January 21, local time.
The pandas arrived in Australia at 6:02 AM on December 15, 2024, aboard a special flight. According to the agreement, “Xing Qiu” and “Yi Lan” will live in Australia for ten years, marking the beginning of a new phase of international cooperation between China and Australia regarding giant panda conservation.

“Xing Qiu,” a male panda born in September 2020, is known for his lively and playful personality. His name, which means “Autumn Sky,” was inspired by the night of his birth, when the sky was sparkling with stars. The name symbolizes the refreshing and tranquil feeling of autumn.
“Yi Lan,” a female panda born in August 2021, is calm and elegant in nature. Her name, which signifies harmony, gentleness, and grace, reflects her gentle demeanor and noble character.
The Adelaide Zoo, Australia’s second oldest zoo, is located in the capital city of South Australia. It is home to over 200 species of both native and exotic mammals, birds, reptiles, and fish. The panda cooperation between China and Australia is set to deepen, continuing to enhance collaboration in areas such as breeding research, disease prevention, animal management, public education, and cultural promotion. This partnership will improve the level of giant panda conservation and research, while further promoting friendly exchanges between the people of China and Australia.
