The giant pandas “Chunsheng” and “Xiangguo” are star residents of Hangzhou Zoo, beloved by visitors. This year, March 21 marks Chunsheng’s 5th birthday and his second birthday celebration in Hangzhou. Starting this weekend, Hangzhou Zoo has planned a series of exciting birthday events for Chunsheng, which will last until the end of the month.
The celebration consists of three main events: the “Chunsheng Birthday Park Tour,” “Chunsheng Birthday Stage,” and “Chunsheng Birthday Pop-up Market.” The Birthday Park Tour and Birthday Stage will be held on the zoo’s large lawn, where visitors can participate in a stamp collection activity and stage performances to win capsule toy prizes. Meanwhile, the Birthday Pop-up Market will take place on the wooden platform next to the Panda Cultural & Creative Store, featuring panda-themed stalls such as a large birthday pixel puzzle, sugar painting, face painting, traditional stamped cakes, and 3D chocolate pandas.
Chunsheng Birthday Park Tour

Visitors can receive a free stamp collection map and participate in check-in activities. By collecting seven stamps, they can enter a capsule toy lottery for surprise gifts.
Chunsheng Birthday Stage

A birthday stage will be set up with a screen displaying birthday wishes for Chunsheng. Panda experts and keepers will share fun facts and stories about pandas, including Chunsheng and Xiangguo’s daily lives. Visitors will also have the chance to participate in a panda knowledge quiz to win exclusive gifts.
Chunsheng Birthday Pop-up Market

- One Year, One Gift – 100-Person Pixel Puzzle
- March 16 (morning)
- Visitors will work together to create a large pixel art birthday mural for Chunsheng using building blocks. Participants can take a commemorative photo and receive a special gift.
- Panda Creative Handicraft Workshop
- A fun LEGO-inspired area where visitors can create pixel-style panda artwork or 3D panda block models.
- Panda-Themed Exploration Day
- Visitors can get a special birthday transparent card by participating in a Xiaohongshu (Little Red Book) social media check-in activity. Post using the hashtags #HangzhouZoo #AiYoHangdongCreatives #Chunsheng5YearsOld for a chance to win surprise gifts from Hangzhou Zoo.
- Panda-Themed Pop-up Market
- The wooden platform will transform into a panda paradise with traditional sugar painting, custom panda face painting, handmade steamed panda cakes, and exclusive birthday-themed merchandise such as Chunsheng birthday badges and wobble toys.

In collaboration with the Panda Post Office, Hangzhou Zoo has designed four exclusive birthday postcards featuring Chunsheng’s adorable moments. Visitors who purchase panda-themed souvenirs can receive a postcard to write birthday wishes for Chunsheng. The messages will be posted on a birthday wall inside the panda exhibit on Chunsheng’s birthday.
