On July 19th, Chongqing Zoo announced that giant panda “Haoqi (好奇)” successfully gave birth to a panda cub on June 28th, adding a new member to the zoo’s panda family.
It is reported that in late February 2024, “Haoqi” was successfully mated at the China Giant Panda Conservation and Research Center. At 7:30 PM on June 28th, 2024, she gave birth to a panda cub, preliminarily identified as female, with a birth weight of 185 grams. This marks “Haoqi’s” second time giving birth; her first birth was in 2021, when she delivered twins named “Qizhen” and “Qibao.”
As of today, the panda cub is three weeks old, showing good growth and development, with its weight reaching 772 grams. Since birth, the cub has been nursed by its mother “Haoqi,” with zookeepers providing minimal artificial assistance.
Chongqing Zoo began keeping giant pandas in the 1960s and started breeding panda cubs in the 1980s. As of July 19th, 2024, the zoo has seen the birth of 32 panda cubs, including 13 sets of twins and one set of triplets, and is currently home to 23 giant pandas.
