On December 31st, Chongqing Zoo issued a notice regarding the recent concern raised by visitors and netizens about the fur loss around the eyes and nose bridge of our giant panda “Yu Ai.” To facilitate “Yu Ai’s” rehabilitation and ensure the healthy growth of both giant pandas “Yu Ke” and “Yu Ai,” adjustments to their enclosure have been made based on expert recommendations. The details of the adjustments are as follows:

Since August of this year, our zoo has invited experts to conduct six specialized consultations regarding the eye condition of the giant panda. Experts have advised that a semi-segregated enclosure would be more beneficial for “Yu Ai’s” eye treatment and the overall health of both pandas. From December 23rd to 30th, the zoo carried out a thorough inspection and repair of the outdoor enclosure structures and upgraded the indoor area, adding a new air circulation system. Additionally, the entire facility has been thoroughly disinfected, and air quality and harmful substances have been tested to ensure a safe and healthy living environment for the pandas.
On December 31st, the zoo implemented a temporary segregated feeding arrangement for “Yu Ke” and “Yu Ai.” The two newly adjusted enclosures are equipped with interconnecting doors and other structures. Depending on the behavior of the two pandas, a decision will be made later to either keep them in separate enclosures or reunite them. Meanwhile, the zoo is progressing with planned renovations and upgrades to the enclosures, continuously improving enrichment facilities, with some pandas also being adjusted as needed.
