Born on January 14, 2018, at the National Zoo of Malaysia, Yi Yi has captivated the hearts of many with her charming personality. She is recognized not only for her adorable demeanor but also for her symbolic name, which represents the friendship between Malaysia and China. After spending her early years in Malaysia, Yi Yi’s journey has led her back to her ancestral homeland, where she continues to be a beloved figure in panda conservation efforts.

Life Experience of Panda Yi Yi

Name Origin: On August 1, 2019, Yi Yi was officially named “Yi Yi” at the National Zoo of Malaysia. The name was chosen from three candidates and received approval from the China Wildlife Conservation Association. “Yi Yi” symbolizes friendship, signifying the strengthening of ties between Malaysia and China.

Growth and Adaptation: As she grew, Yi Yi gradually adapted to the climate and environment of Malaysia, quickly becoming one of the zoo’s star attractions. On January 14, 2019, Yi Yi celebrated its first birthday, with many people from Malaysia sending their birthday wishes.

Delayed Return to China: Originally scheduled to return to China in April 2020, Yi Yi’s repatriation was postponed due to the global pandemic.

Return to China: On August 29, 2023, Yi Yi and her brother Sheng Yi set off from the National Zoo of Malaysia to return to China. They safely arrived at the Wolong Shenshuping Base of the China Giant Panda Protection and Research Center in Chengdu on the morning of August 30, 2023, entering the quarantine area for further care and monitoring.
