Miao Miao was named after her severe dehydration at birth. The name “Miao Miao,” which means “abundant water” in Chinese, was chosen with hopes that it would bring her health and vitality as she grew.
Growth and Development
Early Years
Miao Miao was initially cared for by surrogate panda mothers due to her biological mother Jiao Zi’s inability to nurse. She was primarily looked after by Yuan Yuan, a panda with a similar delivery time, ensuring Miao Miao received essential nutrition.
Miao Miao lived with several surrogate mothers, including the lively Cheng Ji and the gentle Li Li. Under their care, she developed a love for bathing and learned about nurturing from her surrogate mothers.
Her personality is calm, sensitive, and intelligent. Although she was initially shy, Li Li’s companionship helped Miao Miao become more outgoing and polite, often stepping back in group situations.
Coal Mining Period (Digging Soil):
As a young panda, Miao Miao enjoyed playful times with friends like Oreo and Yuan Run. She became known as “Panda Star Miao” for her clever antics and charming behavior, often staying out of the enclosure to enjoy more apples and milk.
Miao Miao, along with Oreo and Yuan Run, formed the “Three Giants of Coal Mining,” often engaging in playful activities that delighted visitors.
Adulthood and Breeding:
As Miao Miao matured, she was included in the breeding program at the Chengdu base. In 2018, she gave birth to her first cub, Jin Yu, a calm little male. She also took on the role of a surrogate mother to her goddaughter Run Jiu, showcasing her nurturing side.
In 2020, Miao Miao welcomed twins, Jin Xi and Jin Shuang, further demonstrating her abilities as a caring mother.
