Meng Yu (萌玉), a delightful female giant panda, was born on May 23, 2018, at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. As the twin sister of Meng Bao, Meng Yu has a quieter personality, often seen peacefully sleeping on wooden platforms. Despite their similar appearances, Meng Yu can be distinguished by the absence of a “beauty mark” that her sister has below her left ear. Intriguing Details of Panda Meng Yu

Appereance: Meng Yu looks very similar to her sister Meng Bao, both being adorable giant pandas with fluffy faces. However, they can be distinguished by a subtle difference: Meng Yu does not have the “beauty mark” that Meng Bao has below her left ear.

Personality: Meng Yu’s personality is relatively quiet, contrasting sharply with her lively and active sister. She is often observed sleeping peacefully on wooden platforms, exhibiting a gentle and serene demeanor.

Pulled by Crows: Once, while Meng Yu was eating bamboo shoots in the outdoor enclosure, two crows sneaked up behind her and began “pulling her fur.” However, Meng Yu remained in a good mood, completely unfazed by the birds. Eventually, the crows made her itch, and she kept scratching her bottom in response rather than chasing them away .

Water Fights: On hot summer afternoons, Meng Yu loves to engage in water fights. She uses her paws to scoop up water from a basin and then splashes it into the air or at her companions, enjoying the coolness and fun.

Birth and Early Growth: Meng Yu was born on May 23, 2018, at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, alongside her twin sister, Meng Bao. Weighing 110.7 grams at birth, she was slightly lighter than her sister Meng Bao, who weighed 149.9 grams.

Weaning and Independence: Meng Yu grew steadily and was officially weaned in early September 2019, starting to learn how to eat bamboo on her own.

Relocation and Quarantine: On September 10, 2019, Meng Yu and her sister Meng Bao flew from Sichuan to Beijing Zoo, where they underwent a one-month quarantine. After completing quarantine, Meng Yu moved into the giant panda enclosure at Beijing Zoo on October 12, meeting visitors for the first time.

Milestones: On May 23, 2023, Meng Yu celebrated her 5th birthday. Beijing Zoo organized a special birthday party for her, showcasing their dedication and care for her growth.
