Basic Information

Intriguing Details of Panda Fu Shun

Unique Debut: Fu Shun first captured public attention in September 2016 when he and 22 other panda cubs of the same age made their debut. His unique way of tumbling head over heels endeared him to many, quickly making him an internet sensation and a beloved “celebrity” among panda enthusiasts.

Appearance: Fu Shun is easily recognizable due to his distinctive physical features. He has very white fur, evenly shaped eye patches that curve upwards at the corners, and a noticeable mole next to his nose.

Behavior: Fu Shun is known for his amusing and interactive behavior. For example, when his keepers take away his toys, he displays playful and endearing antics, such as pretending to pout and chasing after them. When feeding with his sister, Fu Lai, he shows remarkable manners, often allowing her to eat first.

Embarrassing Moments: Despite being a social media sensation, Panda Fu Shun has his shy moments. Sometimes, after a day of cuteness overload, when it’s time to go home, Fu Shun hesitates. While the other panda babies have already obediently climbed down from the trees to head home with their caregivers, Fu Shun remains perched on the tree, too scared to come down. This is not the first time this has happened, so the caregivers are used to it. They often need to gather several of them to help coax the awkward “panda star” down. With continuous encouragement, Fu Shun will eventually shakily descend the tree and follow the caregivers back home. According to the caregivers, this is because Fu Shun has fallen numerous times while climbing as a cub, which has left him with a fear of climbing, resulting in a psychological scar.

Becoming a New Player for Manchester City: In 2018, Premier League team Manchester City adopted the two-year-old Fu Shun and held an online naming competition to select a new name for him. The winning name, “Cheng Cheng,” was chosen as Fu Shun’s new moniker at Manchester City. The club also customized an 86th jersey for “Cheng Cheng,” officially making him a member of the Manchester City family.
