On May 27, Ocean Park Hong Kong announced the names of the city’s first-ever twin giant panda cubs. The female panda is named “Jia Jia (加加)”, and the male is named “De De (得得).”
The twin cubs are the offspring of giant pandas “Le Le” and “Ying Ying“. Le Le and Ying Ying were the second pair of pandas gifted to Hong Kong by the Central Government in celebration of the 10th anniversary of Hong Kong’s return to China. Born on August 15, 2024, the twin cubs mark the first successful birth of giant pandas in Hong Kong.
A naming contest for the panda twins, organized by the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau of the Hong Kong SAR Government and co-hosted by Ocean Park Hong Kong, was launched in February. Citizens were invited to submit name suggestions based on the pandas’ appearance, personalities, interactions, and heartwarming daily moments.
