The twin giant panda cubs born to Ying Ying marked their 100th day on November 23. Ocean Park Hong Kong held a celebration for the panda siblings, attracting a large number of citizens who came to extend their blessings. In an interview with China News Service, a citizen expressed hopes for the cubs to grow up healthy and happy, eagerly anticipating meeting them in person.
Since the cubs have not yet been officially named, Hong Kong residents affectionately refer to them using Cantonese terms “Jia Jie” (big sister) and “Xi Lao” (little brother). Early in the morning, long lines formed outside Ocean Park. Many citizens and tourists dressed in panda-themed clothing, waiting excitedly for the park to open.

Among the crowd was 75-year-old Granny Law, who brought a panda plush toy and was at the front of the line. Granny Law shared that she has loved pandas for over 30 years, and seeing their adorable demeanor always brings her joy. “Now there are six pandas in Hong Kong, especially ‘Jia Jie’ and ‘Xi Lao,’ this pair of twins. Watching them grow bit by bit feels like watching my own children,” she said.
Inside Ocean Park, a welcoming area decorated with cartoons of “Jia Jie” and “Xi Lao” and bilingual banners saying “Celebrating Jia Jie and Xi Lao’s 100 Days” greeted visitors. To mark the occasion, the park handed out traditional red eggs and ginger vinegar with pig trotters to visitors. Additionally, the park reopened its “Panda Adventure” attraction, reintroducing panda dad Le Le to the public.
Outside Le Le’s enclosure, a fan named Ms. Yeung, dressed in a panda-patterned jacket, happily posed for photos. A self-proclaimed “superfan,” Ms. Yeung shared that she frequently visits Ocean Park to see the pandas and has also traveled to Chengdu for panda tours. “Seeing Le Le back in action is so exciting. I also can’t wait for ‘Jia Jie’ and ‘Xi Lao’ to grow up and meet them one day,” she said.

At noon, Ocean Park aired a live broadcast of “Jia Jie” and “Xi Lao.” The contrast between the gentle and quiet “Jia Jie” and the lively and active “Xi Lao” delighted viewers, drawing cheers and applause. According to park staff, the twins have been growing at a “storm-like” pace. Both cubs have grown teeth, with “Jia Jie” increasing from 122 grams at birth to 5.3 kilograms, and “Xi Lao” growing from 112 grams to 5.5 kilograms.
Hong Kong SAR Government Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Kevin Yeung, told the media that the government, in collaboration with Ocean Park and the Hong Kong Tourism Board, will launch promotional campaigns under the theme “Invite the World to Visit Hong Kong.” The goal is to create a city-wide atmosphere celebrating the pandas.
Yeung also revealed that the third pair of giant pandas gifted by the central government to Hong Kong is adapting well. Ocean Park will gradually organize small-scale tours to help them acclimate to crowds. It is anticipated that the pandas will officially meet the public in December.
