Recently, Chimelong Safari Park in Guangzhou held a special unveiling ceremony for the new IP character “Mei Zhu.” Mei Zhu is the daughter of Meng Meng, the eldest of the world’s only surviving giant panda triplets. Loved by many in the Guangzhou area, the nickname “Mei Zhu” was born from the affectionate calls of the public.

At the unveiling ceremony, families and panda fans gathered to witness the reveal of Mei Zhu’s adorable character. With big, watery eyes, a playful yet innocent gaze, a little flower on her nose, and a pacifier in her mouth, Mei Zhu’s soft, pink, and cute appearance captivated everyone. Her character design perfectly showcased her personality, deepening the emotional connection between the public and the panda, while offering an enjoyable experience for all.

In the “Panda Maternity Center” at Chimelong, Mei Zhu underwent a health check conducted by her caregivers, while her mother Meng Meng received a special Mid-Autumn enrichment feast. The heartwarming scene of mother and daughter together touched the hearts of everyone present. As Mei Zhu nears her 100-day celebration, even more surprises are expected.

After the ceremony, Mei Zhu, in her vibrant costume as an NPC (non-player character), led guests on a tour of the park, spreading Mid-Autumn Festival blessings to her animal neighbors. The celebration tour took visitors to various animal exhibits, each specially designed to welcome the upcoming festival.

The first stop was the panda “Guoqing” exhibit, where visitors were greeted by an upgraded Mid-Autumn Festival-themed display. New lantern decorations brought a festive atmosphere to Guoqing’s home. The tour then moved on to the koala exhibit, where guests marveled at a family photo featuring eight generations of koalas, a symbol of unity and harmony. Next, they visited the newly-born twin Brazilian tapirs, extending their blessings to this rare and growing family. Mei Zhu joined in wishing her tapir friends a healthy and happy future.

From September 15 to 17, during the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, Chimelong will introduce newly upgraded animal enrichment activities. Besides visiting Mei Zhu and Meng Meng to witness their mother-daughter reunion, visitors will also have the chance to see Chimelong’s “big four” pandas – Ting Ting, Guoqing, Shuai Shuai, and Kuku – engaging in special Mid-Autumn themed activities. Each panda exhibit will feature unique settings themed around “ascending the moon,” “viewing the moon,” “chasing the moon,” and “landing on the moon,” creating an immersive, story-like experience for guests to enjoy as they explore the park.

In addition to the pandas, more than 20,000 animals from over 500 species will be part of the Mid-Autumn celebrations, with each group receiving their own festive enrichment food to enjoy alongside the visitors.
