The entire United States is celebrating the debut of two giant pandas, Yun Chuan and Xin Bao, at the San Diego Zoo in California on August 8. According to ABC News on the 6th, the San Diego Zoo has posted adorable photos of Yun Chuan and Xin Bao eating bamboo on the homepage of its website. Reports indicate that Yun Chuan and Xin Bao arrived from China about a month and a half ago and will spend the next ten years at the San Diego Zoo. To acclimate to their new environment, they underwent a one-month quarantine.
The San Diego Zoo stated that these two giant pandas are the first to come from China to the U.S. for temporary residence in over 20 years. The 5-year-old male panda, Yun Chuan, is the son of a panda born at the San Diego Zoo in 2007. According to ABC’s “Good Morning America,” zoo keepers described Yun Chuan as lively, outgoing, and curious, often appearing at the sound of the keepers’ footsteps. Meanwhile, the 4-year-old female panda, Xin Bao, is more shy but very intelligent, showing a keen interest in the sounds of animals and birds.
The San Diego Zoo expanded its panda area fourfold to welcome the two pandas. The staff also planted eight different types of bamboo to balance the dietary standards according to the pandas’ preferences, ensuring proper nutrition. ABC reported that both China and the U.S. are celebrating the restoration of “panda diplomacy,” with zoo visitors across the United States eagerly anticipating the arrival of the pandas. Previous reports mentioned that the San Diego Zoo first received giant pandas in 1996 and had not received any new pandas from China for over 20 years. However, more giant pandas are expected to arrive in the U.S. in the coming months
