Crossing oceans and mountains, follow the giant pandas on an extraordinary global journey. The 20-episode bilingual documentary “Panda Narratives” traverses Asia, Europe, Oceania, and North America, vividly recording the living conditions of pandas abroad and witnessing the enduring friendship between China and other nations.

Guided by the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda, and co-produced by Mango TV and Beijing Huasheng Zhihai Culture Communication Co., Ltd., “Panda Narratives” focuses on panda culture, documenting the life experiences, environments, and emotional connections between Chinese pandas and humans overseas. It highlights the profound concept of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.

Vividly Recording the Life of Pandas Abroad: A Global “Panda Circle of Friends”

In their lush, bamboo-surrounded habitats, giant pandas breathe in the fresh air, leisurely munching on bamboo leaves or happily climbing and playing in trees. These lively scenes are meticulously captured and presented through a blend of animation and live-action in the documentary, allowing viewers to deeply understand the real living conditions of pandas abroad.

To provide a comprehensive understanding of the panda world, the program features experts and keepers from the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda. They explain various panda-related knowledge in an accessible manner, from the detailed preparations required before pandas go abroad to how panda mothers meticulously care for their cubs, and the reasons behind their intriguing “stereotyped behaviors.”

Pandas as Ambassadors of Peace and Friendship

Chinese giant pandas, with their adorable looks, rare status, and rich cultural heritage, are beloved worldwide. Through the eyes of “Panda A Pu,” the first international panda ambassador in the documentary, we see the global affection and friendliness toward pandas. In Belgium, the arrival of pandas “Hao Hao” and “Xing Hui” sparked a “panda craze,” with a dedicated fan even founding the Global Panda Award, affectionately known as the “Oscars for Pandas.” In Japan, a man named Takashi Takahashi showcases extraordinary dedication by daily capturing every moment of pandas like “Xiang Xiang.”

Calling for Global Attention to Panda Conservation

Creating a conducive environment for pandas to thrive is a global effort. In the documentary, Qatar spent four years building a luxurious panda house spanning 120,000 square meters at the cost of 180 million Qatari Riyals (approximately 360 million RMB) to welcome these national treasures. Similarly, in Singapore, pandas live in meticulously designed habitats featuring dense bamboo groves, clear streams, lush trees, and large rocks, with four types of bamboo specifically planted for them to enjoy. These heartwarming stories call for worldwide attention and genuine care for pandas, fostering a better and harmonious environment for their growth.

The Dedication of Panda Caretakers

The healthy growth of pandas is inseparable from the round-the-clock care of their “nannies.” The documentary records the growth story of “Fu Bao,” the first panda naturally bred in Korea. Since birth, “Fu Bao” has been pampered by her caretakers, Grandpa Kang and Grandpa Song, who have crafted various toys like bamboo glasses and guitars for her. In Indonesia, keepers come up with creative ways to enrich the lives of “Hu Chun” and “Cai Tao,” such as hanging carrots on bamboo to exercise their limbs and making ice cakes to celebrate birthdays. In Russia, caretakers built snowmen and snow piles for “Ding Ding” and “Ruyi” to frolic in the snow. Over the years, these adorable treasures and their guardians have formed deep emotional bonds, transcending species and national boundaries.
