Birth: Meng Xiang, along with his twin brother Meng Yuan, made his grand entrance into the world on September 1, 2019, at the Berlin Zoo.
Naming Ceremony: This special moment was celebrated during a naming ceremony held on December 9, 2019, marking their 100-day milestone. The names “Meng Xiang” and “Meng Yuan” were chosen to symbolize the fulfillment of dreams and aspirations. The ceremony was a momentous occasion, attended by over 100 guests, including Wu Ken, the Chinese Ambassador to Germany; Michael Müller, the Mayor of Berlin; and various media representatives.
Growth: As the twins grew, they captured the hearts of visitors and staff alike. On November 11, 2021, the Berlin Zoo announced that Meng Xiang and Meng Yuan had successfully weaned and would soon be preparing for their journey back to China. Their third birthday celebration on August 31, 2022, was a joyful event, complete with gifts and festivities specially organized by the zoo, showcasing the affection and care provided by their dedicated caregivers.
Preparation: In November 2023, Meng Xiang and Meng Yuan entered a month-long quarantine as the final step in their preparations for their return to their homeland. On December 8, the Berlin Zoo held a farewell event for the beloved panda twins, unveiling commemorative plaques in their honor.
Back to China: Finally, on December 17, 2023, in a collaborative effort between Chinese and German authorities, Meng Xiang and Meng Yuan safely arrived in Chengdu, China. After severl moths’ quarantine and adaptation, they met the public at Chengdu Panda Base.
