Panda Center Holds Second Panda Birthday Enrichment Event

On August 9th, the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda held the second event of its “A Silent Feast of Growth” panda birthday enrichment season at the Dujiangyan Base in Sichuan (Why Do Captive Giant Pandas Need Enrichment?). Through live streaming and on-site scientific education about giant pandas, the event continued to showcase the crucial role of enrichment in maintaining the physical and mental health of captive pandas, attracting widespread attention.

Viewers tuned in via the live stream to check in on the elderly pandas “Tiantian,” “Meixiang,” “Gaogao,” and “Baiyun,” who reside in the wellness area. They learned about the health conditions and daily lives of these senior pandas, as well as the special care routines provided by their keepers. At the Panpan, Shuangnan, and Diequan enclosures, viewers also enjoyed watching the pandas savor their enrichment treats. These included fresh bamboo shoots, carrot skewers, and intricately carved fruits and vegetables, as well as environmental enrichments like bamboo wind chimes and small bamboo horses. Whether on-site or through screens, the pandas’ contentment and the keepers’ dedication were evident. The on-site educational activities combined fun with learning, with visitors actively participating in science quizzes and crafting, gaining more knowledge about giant pandas.

In addition to being streamed on the Panda Center’s social media platforms, the event was also live-streamed on platforms such as People’s Daily, Xinhua News, CCTV News, and China National Parks, garnering over 2 million views and more than 1 million reads. The on-site educational activities provided scientific knowledge about giant pandas to over 300 visitors. Online viewers expressed their appreciation, with many commenting, “Looking forward to more educational events like this” and “Can’t wait to see the enrichment activities at the Ya’an Base.”

In September, the Panda Center’s panda birthday enrichment events will continue at the Ya’an Base, offering the public a glimpse into the lives of the pandas there.
